Libril Privacy Policy
Effective Date: 16/07/2025
Welcome to Libril. We built this application on a simple but powerful idea:
Your data is yours. This Privacy Policy is not just a legal document; it’s a reflection of our core values and our commitment to protecting your privacy through our “privacy-by-design” architecture.
We believe in transparency, so we’ve written this policy in plain English to help you understand how we operate.
Key Terms
- “Libril,” “we,” “us,” “our”: Refers to the UK-based company that develops the Libril application.
- “You,” “user”: Refers to you, the individual using our desktop application.
- “Personal Data”: Under the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR), this is any information that can be used to identify a living person. For us, this is limited to information like your email address.
This policy applies to the Libril desktop application and our interactions with you regarding your purchase and support requests.
Our Privacy Promise: What We Fundamentally Do Not Collect
Libril is a local-first application. This isn’t just a technical term; it’s a promise. It means that the content you create belongs to you and lives on your computer, not on our servers.
Because of this fundamental design, we never have access to, collect, store, or transmit the following data:
- Your Creative Work: All text, articles, notes, and other content you generate within Libril.
- Your Project Data: All creative briefs, project structures, and metadata associated with your work.
- Your API Keys: Any third-party API keys you enter into the application are stored securely on your machine using encryption and are never transmitted to us.
- Your Personal Files: Libril does not scan, index, or transmit any files on your local machine outside of its own designated project files.
This data is stored exclusively on your local device. We cannot see it, analyze it, share it, or lose it. You retain ultimate ownership and control over your work. This architecture ensures we adhere to the core GDPR principles of data minimization and storage limitation by design, as we simply cannot collect data we don’t need.
The Limited Information We Do Collect and Why
While the core of your work remains private to you, there are a few, limited circumstances where we handle a minimal amount of information to provide our services. We believe in being completely transparent about what this is and why.
Information You Voluntarily Provide to Us
- When You Purchase Libril: To sell our software, we partner with Lemon Squeezy, a secure and trusted payment processor that acts as our “Merchant of Record.” When you make a purchase, you provide your payment information directly to them. Libril never sees or stores your financial information. Lemon Squeezy provides us only with your email address.
- Purpose: We use this email address solely to deliver your license key, verify your purchase, and send critical software updates.
- When You Contact Us for Support: If you email us for support, we collect your email address and any information you include in your message.
- Purpose: We use this information exclusively to understand your issue and resolve your support request.
- When You Give Feedback: If you choose to submit feedback through a form in the app, we collect the information you provide.
- Purpose: We use your feedback to understand user satisfaction and guide product improvements.
Information We Collect Automatically for Product Improvement (With Your Consent)
To help us improve Libril, we have an analytics system that collects a small amount of anonymous, non-personal data. Under privacy laws like GDPR, collecting this data requires your explicit and affirmative consent (opt-in), as it is not strictly necessary for the application to perform its main function. You are never required to opt-in to use the application.
If you choose to opt-in, the application will automatically collect:
- Performance Tracking: To help us diagnose issues and optimize the AI, we anonymously track the performance of each AI call. This includes the duration (time) and token count for each step of the content generation process (Research, Outline, Writing, Humanizer). This data is always aggregated and can never be linked to you or your content.
- Trial Article Count: During the trial period, the app keeps a local count of the number of articles you have generated to manage the trial limitations.
This data is fundamentally anonymous and is used only to make the product better, faster, and more reliable for everyone. You can withdraw your consent at any time through the application’s settings menu.
How We Use Your Information (Our Lawful Basis for Processing)
Under UK data protection law, we must have a valid reason, or “lawful basis,” for processing any personal data.
